Ferrite powder is obtained by the conventional method, as follows. Iron oxide, nickel oxide, zinc oxide, and cupric oxide are mixed by ball mill. The mixture is calcined at 700 °C for 4 h and then comminuted down to the desired specific surface area. Ferrite powder is mixed with binder solution, and then dispersed using three-roll mills. It is shown that mechanical treatment in a ball mill leads to a decrease in the defects level, an increase in the Curie point and a demagnetizing factor of ferrite ceramics. The growth of the demagnetizing factor is associated with an increase in the porosity of ferrite ceramics samples pre-grinded in ball. Fig. 4 shows the X-ray diffraction patterns of the ball-mill prepared Ni–Zn ferrite powders obtained after annealing at the various temperatures. It can be seen from this figure that Ni–Zn ferrite phase is stable over the heat treatment temperature.
